Don't know that I've ever been in a hall that had seating behind the orchestra.
Having spent the vast majority of my time in the school bands very near the back row, I can kind of imagine what your experience was like, but wouldn't mind experiencing it in a real orchestral hall instead of a school auditorium or gymnasium.
