accompanying (younger) wifey on her business trips. Currently in Chicago this weekend. I get to explore with long walks and bike rides and keep up my step count. Yesterday, I tracked just over 25,000.
We're staying at a downtown Hotel that is in easy walking distance of the CSO. Last night we enjoyed a wonderful concert with content by Sibelius, Dvorak and Rachmaninov. It is such a special place to enjoy music given its acoustics and heritage. Symphonic Dances was composed in 1940 and first played here just a year later!
This time, I chose seats in the Terrace which is located above and behind the orchestra. While sometimes used for large choral pieces, it is often available for patrons. It provides a different perspective, both visually and sonically where you can watch the conductor and get a more immediate sound. You are seated underneath the dome above the stage. It just doesn't get any better from my perspective. This is the sonic experience I attempt to replicate at home. It is the truly live flavor where the sound floats above the orchestra and *pinpoint* imaging isn't found. :)
