Transformers are one way of reducing it at the critical points in your audio system, so the benefit may have been more from the presence of the transformer than the detail of whether it was feeding balanced or normal AC to the player.Some AC isolation transformers actually make the sound worse, by injecting a nasty sonic character of their own. Thus, it is not always helpful to make a blanket recommendation, to just use transformers to cure the problem.
I've had benefit from treating RF noise at local sources as well as the susceptibility of my audio system to it. UPS devices for computers and video gear with switching supplies are usually on all the time. Even if they are in other parts of the house and not on the same AC circuit, they generate noise that gets into the audio system. Local treatment including standard or DIY filters helps.
