also a jitter reduction interface is almost mandatory (like Monarchy DIP or Camelot Dragon or an old Genesis digital lens) between transport and DAC.The only mod I have heard that really delivered the goods was Allen Wright's VacuumState mods and this is basically the replacement of the entire analog output section of a Sony high end SACD player! Not to mention it is quite expensive. HOwever, with SACD it delivered one of the best digital playbacks I have heard.
Me? I am going to a new DAC.
