As previously stated, you can audition multiple DACs but you cannot audition a modified player, The sound of a good DAC will probably sound as good as that of any modified player, much more flexible and cheaper! A lot depends on the digital output of the DVP9200, if it has a jitter prone output then the results will be less than stellar.
