I agree with the suggestion to go DAC. For one thing it is possible to audition some DACs, but you cannot usually audition a mod. A DAC can also move from player to player as your needs and players change. A DAC also has a reasonably predictable resale value which a modded unit may or may not have. A modded unit loses its factory warranty and you are left with the after-service of the modifier. But will he look after the parts he did not modify? Plus I like my DAC, and found I use it with more than one input.
