DAC VS. Player upgrade

69.112.192.140

Hi,

I am in a dilemma. I am condiering buying a Denon 2900 upgraded by Modwright and after talking to a close friend and fellow audiophile, he suggested getting a DAC of choice and use it with my present player, now becoming a transport. He figured there would be more flexibility in case I didn't like the results of modifying my present player or buying one already done. My present player is a Toshiba 9200 and for a totally stock unit, it is the best sounding player I ever heard. I was just wondering if it is worth modifying mine. If it can sound better then I would like to do it. It seems that after looking over things, Modwright and Underwood HiFi both offer similar or the same upgrades taking out the op-amp output stage and replacing it with their tube buffer/gain stage. Again, all with power supply upgrades and the such included. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!
