Home Radio Road

Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

Since I never owned an MR-71

I'm not qualified to say whether the wood case would actually cause overheating, but I'd be willing to bet it would cause more heat to be trapped inside the tuner than without it.

While I've heard my share of tube tuners, the only ones I've actually owned are a few Dynaco FM-3. I'd never put one of these mini-space heaters inside of a wood case, even one with provisions for venting. In fact, when I cycle one into the system, I almost always run it with the metal cage off, and sometimes even use a fan on it. The little Dynaco tuner gets hot!
