Accuphase E-202 Problem

I bought an Accuphase E-202 recently and it arrived today. I have what is potentially a serious problem, here, and I am wondering if anyone can tell me the cause of my problem. When I hooked up my tuner and CDP to the amp, I found a big issue with the volume/balance controls. The left channel works fine - when the balance is set to 100% left channel and the volume is set to zero, there is no sound from the speakers. When the volume is turned up the sound volume raises in the left speaker, as it should. However, the right channel does not respond to the volume control AT ALL. As the balance control is turned to â€œfavorâ€ the right channel, the volume increases all the way up to whatever output volume the source provides. The volume control has NO effect, whatsoever with respect to the left channel. I happened to find out because I hooked up my tuner using the variable outputs (thank G-d) and this was the only way I could affect volume control in the right channel. I am afraid that if I had hooked it up using the fixed output on my tuner that I would have blown my speakers (it would have been THAT loud out of the right channel). A quick check using the CDP confirms the same issue and it is the same suing Tape1, Tape2, and Aux. Obviously, unless I am missing something here, this is a MAJOR defect. Can anyone comment and hopefully enlighten. Otherwise, I fear that I am looking at an immediate and possibly costly repair bill. Luckily I do have an electronics wizard who has an audio hospital nearby my home.
