because so many expensive stereos don't sound very good

I hate to say this but so many expensive stereos don't sound very good. I think th ekey problem is where the money is invested. The room and speakers are by far the weakest links for sound quality. No amount of money spent on electronic or wires can compensate.

It's disturbing to see so much money spent (wasted) on electronics and wires, and so little spent on room acoustics & speakers (that cause gross frequency response errors distorting the musical performance).

It's disturbing to see so much money spent on expensive electronics when the speakers and room acoustics are so far from excellent ...
or even very good.

It's particularly distubing when components are upgraded so often that the owner has spent a small fortune (compared with his income) and still never seems happy with his stereo ... often becase the room is so far from perfect and/or the speakers have limited bass output or uncontrolled room resonances are tolerated.
