My daughter's violin...

She has a moderately old Italian student violin of no special vintage.

If the sound post is where most people think it should be, this instrument has a wolf note like you wouldn't believe.

If you shove the peg over a bit, it's as smooth as can be.

Problem is, the peg on this one loves to come loose......

The violin was literally rescued from the trash. Had a couple of cracks, a bunch of unglued joints, but strings, proper gluing (best thing about NJ was a good luthier about 2 miles away who loved to fix things) and it actually is pretty decent. No strad, for sure...

I've heard a trio of the axlerod strads (Violin Viola Cello) that live at the Smithsonian, recorded them with the soundfield mike some time back. Egads do they speak up. The violin in particular was so easy to sound LOUD that we had to push the violinist back from the other two a bit to get a balance...

No, I didn't play them. Not me. I do flutoid woodwind type things. (Regular old Bohm flute, if anything, is my best instrument, if one can use the word "best" here. No time, no practice...) I'd be afraid to even touch them or hold them :)
