Was it not true . . .

. . . that we could measure "the voltage and current to the speaker to a resolution that exceeds anything the auditory system can resolve" in 1972?

But then, Matti Otala came along in 1973 with measurements of TIM.

See the point? What else is there left undiscovered about amplifiers that might help predict how they will sound? Nothing? How do we know when we're done? Some folks thought we were done when we could produce an amp with flat frequency response, low harmonic distortion and low noise--but we weren't, were we? IM and TIM were yet to be discovered and acted upon.

As I said (but you seem to have missed), I'm hopeful that we might someday have measurements that will actually tell us how an amp will sound. Would make life easier!
