Anything jitter-related should ultimately be visible as some form of waveform distortion.

Um, and what's the result of distorting the waveform in the time domain? That's right, it's suprious frequencies which weren't in the original waveform. So explain to me how these spurious frequencies will not be visible on a spectrum analyzer.
