It works a bit different.
Either your DAC accepts 16 bit or 24 bit input.
In case of ASIO the protocol takes care of the bit depth.
In case of WASAPI you have to set this manually most of the time.
You can’t send 24 bit audio to a 16 bit DAC without truncating it to 16 bits
You can’t send 16 bit audio to a 24 bit DAC without adding 8 zero bits.
