That's a VERY good question! Because I have op-amp sockets, I could remove them and use the sockets to add in board mount caps or isolation transformers. I like transformers because I can use a ratio other than 1:1. I have to look at how the DACs are configured. Are they not mostly differential in which case to go single-ended I lose some gain going into the output section? Not sure - not an electronics expert. Would you use Jensens for this? Or something smaller?
I did do an active to passive upgrade to my (now dead) DCX2496 without too much trouble... I should have got those caps out of there before I ditched the unit! oops... I was pretty mad when my attempt at a CS8416 hardwire reprogram failed because of an ESD handling procedure SNAFU on my part. DUH! Ha ha. A piece of kit built around the CS8416 - what a shame they didn't have the CS8420 (CS8416 Version 2.0 if you ask me...)
