Jan, have you tried increasing the current thru the EC99, as opposed to the stock set up? The
EC99 will work optimally with at least 4 to 5mA per section (and more is better), whereas the
12AU7 in the stock circuit is running on much lower current. You would need to change the
cathode resistor in an MP3 or the cathode resistor on the CCS in an MP1, but make sure the
power transformer can take the additional load. (So the voltage headroom available and the
transformer are the determinants of how much current you can use across the ECC99.)
