I looked at the web site you provided. It's not clear to me whether your cables of choice are well shielded or not. Anything other than a complete shield is not acceptable.Since you're using the RCA inputs, at no time should the XLR connector shore be removed between pins 1 & 3. Any volume level change makes no sense to me.
