If you check out the curves on the Svetlana site, you'll find the 6AS7G is just as linear at 25 mA as it is at 150 mA. These are extremes not usually seen in our amps, so I wouldn't worry about different plate currents attributing much to sonics, as you guessed. If you run all your tubes at low plate current, then the greatest sonic impact will be the much higher output impedance from the amp. This will make it much harder to drive your lower impedance speakers and cause real havoc with crossover interaction.

As I've said before, Giz has no leg to stand on here, no proof, no science, etc. This is my opinion based on extended listening, lots of measurements, lots of calculation and the opinions of many other ears I have come to trust.

Ralph does cherry pick the tubes he uses and he also burns them in. They are not done to some anal audiophile standard, however.
