If I had some Dynamat (or similar) offcuts on hand, I would have used it - but delivery to Australia takes a long time.
Messy goop (2.5 tubes of gapfiller glue + sand + a pile of plywood offcuts) has already done the job nicely, and cost about $6. As a bonus, it has given a finish on the vanes that I'll be able to sand and repaint to a near-stock appearance.
