Yep, it is fundamental to Australian humour (and thinking in general); so much so that it is somewhat innate and we are at often at a loss to describe it. Interestingly, it is often entirely lost on the Americans I know, though I understand that this is a small representation of American population and therefore I should be careful of the conclusions I draw...
