This is kind of like the set-up I've been using the last three years or so, 8" drivers (trusonic)in a homemade 150Hz trax horns. I added a "phase plug" oak ball and mounted a Neo mag 3/4 dome tweeter in the ball. I see now that they're making a 5/8" neo tweet similar to the 3/4" I'm using, and that will fit INSIDE the voice coil of my 8". Will probably work on this in the fall.
I used horn tweeters outside the horn but it didn't image as weel or sound as good as the domes (to me). I've looked at other co-ax's but they all cross over too high for my liking, with my set-up I cross over around 10K. For bass I have homemade 36Hz .6hypex 1/8th space with the folds set to cancell above 180Hz with a "muffler" effect so the only cross over is on the dome tweet at 10k.
It sounds very nice and musical to me without being harsh or "spitty". I would recommend experimenting in this direction.
In the future I'll be mounting the horns in to the wall, "Soffit", adding the 5/8 tweets, and building new bass horns that will be 1/4 space instead of 1/8 space, but still corner mounted. I'm hoping that will give me that last little bit of refinement.
If you're ever in north-central California you're welcome to come by for a listen.
