i thought abought such a solution a short while ago. It seems a interesting idea. dispertion characteristic of the higher frequencies would not suffer, it would remain almost the same. so you have less time alignment and phase problems, good image and stereo effect, and coax drivers sound anyway better to me than widerange drivers.
