I'd suspect any problems you're hearing are problems elsewhere in the chain. Yes, the 701s have an impedance of (mostly) 60-ohms, which presents a slightly more difficult load for some amplifiers, but most consumer gear should be able to drive them with no problem. Suggest checking over at head-fi.org for details on what works, and what doesn't, with those cans.
