I would replace everything else actually! Let's see, I have the bottom rung AKG phones and they sound great. So, young man, what you need is an amplifier. I feel like the wizard of Oz in this! Then I would work on the source components.

I suggest a dedicated headphone amplifier and you needn't spend too much IMO. Some of them have built-in DACs, which would probably further your cause immensely as well ;-)

[AKG, oops, no experience. But I have Beyerdynamics headphones, how could I confuse them? I think the dedicated amplifiers are the way to go still.]
