But you specifically said "gear," which is not records. He probably has a lot of records that have been given to him, but considering the size of his collection it's likely a smallish percentage. His career as a reviewer has roughly coincided with mine as a music writer, and during that time there hasn't been a lot of vinyl being mailed out as promos. He's almost certainly bought the vast majority of those records.
