"Without taking sides, I do know firsthand from some manufacturers and distributors that they beleive they have been vitims of extortion when it comes to reviews vs. ad money."I believe that is actually secondhand information at best. And the statement that "they believe they have been" makes it even shakier. I can state with absolute confidence there are good guys and bad guys in all professions and pursuits. Life has a way of dealing with both. I don't believe this forum -- or even one similar to it -- is appropriate for such discussions. Let them take place where they belong: between the parties involved.
Besides, what would we do if we did allow such discussion, arguments and exchanges? Act like some kind of on-line Judge Judy? Maybe perform some sort of American Idol on-line vote? Would we simply cast our votes for the person who can write the best? Would we allow on-line testimony from mutual-best-friend-professional witnesses who received copies of all communications from both sides of each case? (I'll leave that can of worms alone for now.) ;~)
I have a pretty vivid imagination, but if I try to imagine Kal Rubinson or Wes Phillips (just to name a couple of examples) trying to shake down a manufacturer for a good review, the picture quickly dissolves and I start laughing at the sheer silliness of the notion.
