Let me add a few more measurements and my own calculations for comment. I'm reasonably new to all this, at the point where I understand enough to be able to do my own calcs but not confident enough to trust them.

Probably a good place to be actually !

Anyway, just measured ...

Anode voltage = 169V
Cathode resistor = 680R
Voltage drop across CR = 4.5V
current through valve = 6.6 mA
Voltage across valve = 164.5V
Plate dissipation (each side) = 1.1W
Total Plate Dissipation = 2.2W

The RCA 5692 data sheets show the following (values are for each unit) ...

Max DC Plate voltage 275V
Max DC Cathode current 15mA
Max Plate Dissipation 1.75W

My measurements would seem to be way inside those. The max Plate Dissipation is way lower than the 6SN7 but I'm still comfortably inside the max. It would seem to be ok - again any views welcome before I try it.
