In Reply to: Has anyone done an in-home audition then returned the product ? posted by AbeCollins on October 9, 2020 at 12:45:06:
Many years ago I purchased a pair of Duevel omni-directional loudspeakers. No local dealers at all so I made sure I could return if needed. They did not work out and I reached out to the distributor about the return. No problem at all. The only challenge was they had to be shipped freight and freight shippers would not come to my house for pickup. The distributor even helped me find a local business willing to be the freight pick up address!
But in the case I visited a local dealer to demo something I would definitely buy from them. I don't think I ever returned anything. I'd generally live with stuff for a while and then sell on the second hand market.
I'd think today dealers would have to allow some flexibility in returns or allowing in-home auditions before buying. Perhaps manufacturers/distributors could provide a single unit for this purpose on loan to the dealer to facilitate it. If that unit sells then everyone gets paid as normal. Or otherwise the buyer has the option to return it and purchase a new in box unit. The buyer could provide a small good faith deposit while the demo unit is on loan.
