RE: Poor in-room response from MG12's

I'm back with more issues - this time what I suspect to be a fault with one of the speakers. Firstly, I should specify, I'm in Israel, and the importer and service people here are completely incompetent. One of the speakers was behaving strangely in the treble region, so I sent it for repair under warranty, and it came back with the sock glued back at the bottom (so how am I supposed to get it off without tearing it?), and the side rails nailed in with giant protruding nail heads, as well as a new tape between the driver and the frame that is white and sticks out like a sore thumb.

In any case, the 'repaired' speaker has an overall tweeter output that is between 2 and 5dB lower than the other speaker across the entire range. Neither has the resistors in, and the problem is independent of amplifier channel or speaker placement, or even near-field or far-field measurements. You can see the difference in both impulse and frequency response, as attached (ignore the absolute shape, that's just the way they were measured).

Is it remotely possible that this pair was simply that badly matched from the factory? That would seem to be unlikely, given how obviously audible such a gap between the two speakers is. Otherwise, does anyone have any theories about what might have caused this? Sending it in for repair doesn't seem to be an option, as as far as I can tell, those responsible for repairing maggies in this country have no idea what they are doing.
