RE: Poor in-room response from MG12's

The NAD 372 lists its damping factor as >150 at 8 ohms. The Parasound A21 I now use has damping factor of >1100 at 20 Hz.

The NAD produced a subjectively louder bass, but it was boomy, bloated and seemed to hang over from one note to the next. The A21 gives a tighter, cleaner bass, more tuneful, but without the same "oomph" the NAD provided.

Whether it is the higher damping factor or something else, the A21 does not excite the room modes as much as the NAD did.

After you have your speakers in a location where they sound good except for the bass peak, you might try moving your listening chair about one or two feet in various directions, while playing music with loud, strong bass. The goal is to find a position for the chair where the bass is less loud, where you are not in the path of the room mode that is producing that big peak ca. 50 Hz.

Hope this is of help.
