RE: Magwire Speaker Cables

LOL! The MultiMag842T (same filaments as in 842R but wrapped in Teflon tape) were THE trauma for me to make. Not only because, for biamping, I had to make 8 of them but also because some friends loved them and asked me to make sets for them. At one point I felt like I had wrapped a million miles of the damn Teflon tape spools. We also depleted Radio Shack's magwire inventory in stores for tens of miles around here.

OTOH, MultiMag842R was far easier by comparison. However, I learned my lesson and never loaned them to friends & neighbors like I did before with the T version. MINE, only mine!

A couple of things for you to keep in mind.
- If you solder the terminations, give them a few days. Though they sound good from day one (here), imaging keeps improving with time. The same happened with 842T ... at one point, a friend's box speakers had developed such great imaging that it scared me.
- My design flaw on 842R are the red thin 30ga if positioned on the outer edge of the ribbon. In one of the ribbons 2 broke with frequent handling. Lazy that I am, I moved it to the low pass of the biamp (were the 2 30ga are no major loss). The next time I build some, I'll try to keep the 30ga at the center of the ribbon. There's less twisting/pulling stress force there. Depending where yours have these, you may want to further protect them. The 842R seem to allow the 30ga magwire to help the tweeter more than the 842T.
- Another "flaw" is that 842R will not win a beauty contest. Thank heavens!

BTW, for a smoother sound please make sure to use REAL holy water when you baptize them. :-))
