Since you plan to "follow through with Peter Gunn" anyway, why not consult with him first on your issues? For one thing, by suggesting your room size and listening level preferences, I'd imagine he could then recommend the best model for you to shop for to begin with.
Secondly, aside from radiation patterns and all that, I think it is frequency that most relates to transmission of sound. Typically neighbor's bass is the first thing noticed and the first to complain about. If you can find a Maggie model with adequate bass for your tastes without the addition of any subwoofer I think you will be less likely to annoy your neighbors. Consider quality over quantity.
Hopefully among all the suggestions posted here you will find your way to musical contentment in your new digs.
