RE: What's The Real Reason Maggies Sound Drab At Low Volume?

What I discovered when I modded my MMG's is that the low volume level playback improved greatly. Firstly, I replaced the crossover components. Better caps, inductors, binding posts and wiring. The lower resistance inductors gave most of the improvement here. Then I made some stands. Nothing fancy, they just held the panels firmly in place. Fact: the less the panels move, the better the speakers sound, even at lower volume. The last thing was the wood frames. Big increase in detail and it happens at a lower volume than the stock frames. It seems that Magnepan's cost cutting methods are responsible for most of their speaker's shortcomings.
Don't forget, even at low playback levels an amp with ample power reserves is a plus too.
A modded 1.6 or 2.7 seems like a great solution to get your Maggie fix.
