oh, hey Jben,
no worries with the late post. Better late then never. I have not had the inclination to change parts in the crossovers. I am greatly limited by my room, and my experience with my old SMGa ( i changed the caps on those speakers to Mundorf) showed next to no improvement that I could pick up with my old ears...so i doubt that i will want to change crossover parts for now, not until the room is better damped for mid bass boom anyway.
Raising the MMGs 6-7 inches off the ground in a wooden 'brace' helped tremendously with soundstage image height, and i found great benefit with soldering my speaker cable directly into the input wires on the speaker, bypassing Maggies speaker termination (allen key screw down) completely. Al's choke tweek was amazing. Somehow these few tweeks together have somewhat tamed the mid bass boom to quite a surprising extent.
I am also playing with things to sit my cd player on, and recently tried the ''sand bag'' tweeks mentioned in other parts (older posts) in Audio Asylum. The sandbags under and on the cd player change the sound to a shocking amount, and further help with the midbass boom. I have recently purchased some black diamond racing cones to try.
I tried sticking some metal 'tip toes' (metal cones) under the MMGs, and the bass just disappeared completely!! So this is one tweek that did not work in MY small room.
Take care and thanks for the feedback.
Warmfires.
