... and I always find I prefer the normal 60Hz sine wave. Sure the other settings sound different but the sine wave always seems to be the least bothersome. Suck it and see works best in the end.

I upgraded to the Multiwave ll+ chipset in my P-600 and was not impressed with the results. I ended up going back to Multiwave as the ll+ had a glare/edginess and synthetic quality to it that did not go away with burnin.
With that said, I use the sinewave function with AC voltage set to 118VAC and frequency set to 61hz as my EICO tube amp sounds best with these settings. The multiwave modes render a slightly bigger soundstage at the expense of naturalness if that makes sense.
The best upgrade one can do on the original PP series is to chuck the nickel plated Power Ports and install some Oyaide outlets...much better :-)
Cheers

Hi Kenster,
Is this a difficult task to perform for a competent, but unskilled hobbyist? I'm having fabulous results with one of PS Audio's new Power Port Premiers in my wall and I'd like to extend the benefits. Is it a simple procedure?
Thanks for taking the time with this.

Hi DE,
"Is this a difficult task to perform for a competent, but unskilled hobbyist?"
It is a simple job that can be done with a set of Hex keys(Allen wrenches) a phillips head screwdriver, a straight blade screwdriver, a pair of diagonal cutters and wire strippers. I'll send you a PM detailing the proceedure.
I ran across the new PS Audio Power Port premiers and they caught my attention...might have to check 'em out.
Cheers,
~kenster
Kenster - Speaking of trying new outlets, you know that Synergistic Research has new quantum tunnelled outlets out right ? Best regards Paul
No I didn't but I do now! Hopefully SR will be at RMAF this weekend and I can check 'em out then.
Cheers
I replaced my outlets (on one of two P300s) with Furutechs, mainly because I use Furutech AC plugs on most of my CryoMax III power cords. Yeah, I use the "Tubewave" setting on this one -- only tube gear is plugged into it -- but mainly because it's there. I love these regenerators but think the various "wave" settings are not exactly essential.
I upgraded my P-300 and it was harsh at first. It was worth it. I kept standard multiwave as my gear has always sounded best w/ the sine wave setting @120hz. If I lose power it switches back to 60hz and I can always tell; the image is smaller and there is less detail. I only like regenrators on sources and the total current draw should be half the units capability for headroom IMO. Don't count on the usage readout for accuracy. Paul has said this many times. Also the new units aren't balanced right? I couldn't live w/o mine.

I agree in that you should only use about half the output capacity of the original power plant series for best performance as they increasingly sound worse when taxed at or near full current capacity output. Mind you the output stage is just an AB class amplifier and the degradation is subtle but when compared to raw power from the wall, it is still a huge improvement! The original chipsets were notorious for not displaying the correct info vs. output but the 2nd generation of Multiwave chipsets with the servo correction sounded much better and largly fixed the readout issues and balanced power output issues but still had small readout errors and one should measure the output vs. input selections and correct for the margin of errors.
Yes, the new units do not have balanced power output and IMHO, are a step down from the original series in performance but they do offer full 1500 watt output capacity. I had the opportunity to audition a PPP in an associates system and he ended up sending 2 PPP's back as the first one kept blowing his preamp fuses upon power up and with the 2nd unit, it really didn't provide any worthwhile improvement in his rig that we could hear with a properly functioning unit.Cheers
