I just sold my 45 amps and have huge cache of them that I bought about 20 years ago. The inflation rate of tubes are crazy these day.
You must have enough to sell on eBay to fund a trip around the world.

I've got a stash too, although not so many of one type as you do in that box of 12AX7s. (I may be close with 6SN7s,) My problem is getting up the energy to advertise the ones I don't want or will never need. Then the prospect of packing and mailing. For the financial return, it hardly seems worth the effort. Last time I did make an effort, I ended up giving some tubes away for free.

I've started selling off some of my excess on the big auction site. My plans for future projects have become clearer lately, and I can see the types that are less likely to be useful. Selling those off will help to fund my new amps and preamps. :)
That's how I need to think. If I sell enough tubes I can get a nice new phono cartridge and maybe a good universal player.
The trouble is, that is not motivation for me. I can afford both already.

I completely understand that. OTOH, it's my goal to continue building the best gear I can, and I hope it might outlive me and eventually be appreciated by others in the family. Leaving behind a hoard of tubes won't benefit anyone, in fact it would be a burden, so I'm trying to find a better balance. To tell the truth, I don't really need more equipment at this point. My latest preamp is nearly perfect, and other than a few tweaks here and there, I doubt it can be bettered in any significant way. I feel the same about the headphone amp and main amp that I'm using. They're so good, even my restored Citation v is now on standby and up for sale locally. I love building gear though and don't intend to spend my final years sitting around the house watching TV. I just need to keep enough of the most useful tubes and components to feed this hobby. :)
