I recently thinking about to build the a system with either Linkwitz LX521 reference or GR Research NX-Treme plus Triple Threats.
So I posted on Oplug based on the fellow friend recommendation who sell drive units!!
They are very impolite by removing my post for no reason!! I just asking whether pure class A amplifier adequate to drive the Linkwitz, mainly concerned about output power. And their administrator removed my post! Sounds like they are very subjective on certain topics, and not open minded!
If anyone who wants to build a Linkwitz LX521, be cautious about their comments, they might be useful on certain or general topics about the Linkwitz ONLY!!
Follow Ups:
I can't speak to Oplug-
As to Linkwitz - Great speakers!
as others have commented, they benefit from POWER,
and as dipoles/ open baffle designs, placement is critical-
Build them or but them, and give them power!
Threshold would be fine-
the pair I heard recently has a set of PASS Labs Amps driving them...
Happy Listening
As a long time audio hobbyist I knew of Linkwitz's reputation. So I was interested when I found his website. That sounded encouraging since so many sonic traits he discussed matched those that were important to me.
So I was looking forward to a connection when I found an extended road trip would allow an audition of Linkwitz speakers in an owner's home. Unfortunately that was not what I'd expected from reading Siegfried's site so I nearly lost interest.
Then in 2010 I was visiting a friend in the Bay Area and contacted Linkwitz about an audition in his home. I suspected my first experience resulted from some flaw in the system that the designer's would not have, Siegfried and his wife were very accommodating and provided an extended audition in their beautiful home. But for some reason I was again disappointed. It failed to have the suggested live music experience I expected. If you've never seen pictures of his room it is a long rectangle with speakers at one end. Both side walls were glass windows to take advantage of the room. No room treatment was apparent. He seemed pleased by the sonics so I could only assume a difference in taste .
If nothing else it was a lesson in the differences between individuals in what we enjoy.

Most likely figured this out, I intended to say, "take advantage of the view."

I find they benefit from diffusion - not mass reflection for the best image.
Maggies, Acoustats, ML, Quads, Carver Amazings, all heard in shops or other people's houses, most if not all would have probably sounded better with about an acre of mattresses behind them. Strong reflections of the rear wave seem to introduce a lot of phase confusion.
and use a mix of different kinds both behind and beside them. Lots of pics in gallery.
The woofers are equalized so they need power, the more the better. I've heard the 1st version and it is an excellent speaker.
As far as I know, the designer of Linkwitz LX521 discourage to use any type of EQ.
No matter, the bottom section actually acts like a subwoofer as it crossover around 120Hz.
Regarding the class A amplifier, I want to use 2 stereo class A amplifier for the bass section. As the bass section of LX521 has two 10 inches (nominal 4 ohm), I can use one amplifier per drive unit. Since each driver's impedance is 4 ohm, the class A amplifier I want to use is 50W in 8ohm and would be 100w in 4 ohm. It should be adequate.
I rather go for the GR Research. Looks like it is a better loudspeaker.
Anyway, the Linkwitz LX521 looks very interesting indeed.
The Linkwitz woofers are dipole. The only way to get deep bass from a dipole because of front to back cancellation from all dipole bass designs is to add bass boost(equalization). Plus no drivers look very nice on their own. All well designed speakers, both active and passive use equalization in their crossovers to make the drivers look nicer before actually adding the high pass and low pass crossovers. And Linkwitz was an excellent crossover designer.
I've heard the LX521 at SL's home, about a year before he passed away. They are very nice speakers! As dipoles, they do benefit from being placed several feet out from the wall in order for the listener to appreciate their excellent sound, imaging, and ambient room sound. I don't remember what EQ was used to tailor the driver outputs, but he does use MiniDSP for the crossovers, which also has EQ capabilities.

We are inclusive and diverse, but dissent will not be tolerated.
Nothing wrong about the speaker as it should be reasonably good.
I'm just complaining about those people who runs the Oplug not allow different voices, dictatorship!!
I found pure class A amplifier if properly set up in a multi-ways system should be very nice.
Out of curiosity I went over to Oplug and read the LX521 thread on amps. There's a post by a user named PPT that I assume is you. PPT asked a quesstion about the suitability of using Threshold amps with the speaker and got some responses. It didn't appear anything was deleted.
Was there something else you posted that was deleted?
I just went back there again and screenshot this. The replies are on the next page. Not sure why I'm seeing it and you're not.
Well Noted!! So they merge posts. That's okay then :-)
Many thanks!
God bless all of us🙏
