I have the original HRT Music Streamer from 2009. I reverse engineered it a small amount to discover it doesn't have async mode as I thought it might, but rather adaptive mode. It uses a Burr Brown PCM2706 USB controller/2 channel 16 bit DAC at up to 48 KHz in isochronous mode, adaptive mode. It has a digital isolator chip to a new digital and analog output ground.
For only $150, I could go to 96 KHz 24 bit maximum rate with improved controller and DAC in async mode. I need it to be cheap enough to try.

I bought Musiland 01 on eBAY as a holdover but alas, it sounds very good to me. I do use the latest 2.0 beta drivers, which I like much better, and have had no problems whatsoever. The interface is asynch USB with 24 bit/192kb/s support. The driver-Windows based Musiland Control Panel shows the locked in rate, processing mode, and provides chnage of various options on the fly. There's a native forum support (in chinese then use Google Chrome to translate on the fly) is pretty good. I have ASIO, DS, & KS working on my Win XP SP3 HP PC. I find the sound smooth and articulate after burning-in for 4-5 days while switching rates and bit-depths. Has brought me back to listening again (also have M-Audio Audiophile USB). I tried 4-5 USB cables, some short, some medium length, none expensive, and was not able to detect a difference (not yet ready to spend more on the cable than the DAC). Really a pretty remarkable buy including the update of drivers and forum support information.

Consider the really cheap but good Musiland 02US - works up to 24 192 async. Don't install driver betond 1.0.8.4 though as they added all kinds of freq equalisation functions and increased driver size 10 fold.
I use one for travelling with a nettop
