I think that for $60,000 it is safe to say that not everyone listens to classical, jazz, or other acoustic music.

Absolutely what does how much someone is spending on speakers in any shape and form have to so with what music they listen to.
And for your information, almost all planars can play any type of music just as well or better than any box speakers can. For example I am currently listening to Pantera as I type this, and I also listen to a wide selection of music as well (classic rock, heavy metal, classical, jazz, rap, basically everything except country and techno). Not all of us planar owners are a bunch of stuffy old farts listening to chamber music.
I would say that you are highly prejudiced towards planars.

When it comes to flat style speakers, many of the design compromises in cheaper products can be overcome simply by spending more money.More money buys bigger panels, which does justice to a wider variety of music. This is seen in the flagship models of several product lines. The cheaper models with smaller panels and reduced bass output, the flagships with larger panels and better bass extension.
When spending up to $60,000, I can easily understand how other products would be favored over Magnepan. The most obvious reason being, Magnepan does not have a product offering in that price bracket. Lol.
Since you are familiar with contemporary music, what do you do when you have an album that is lean, bright, no mids no bass? Is that a problem on Magneplanars? How about some female pop vocals, where the microphone choice only accentuates an overly screechy voice? Bad choice for Magneplanars, even with tweeter resistor?

Agreed. Lots of people have heard only the small Maggies and non-hybrid electrostats think planar = no bass. Which is kind of like listening to mini monitors and thinking dynamic = no bass.
