Dean if you like bass then the D200 will IMO smoke the AT headphones. Not sure about the synergy with your amp but it should be OK as its a hybrid tube input and solid state output if I am correct. The D2000 is a great headphone and a class way above your AT at least IMO as having owned the AT one time and for the 89.00 I paid was a nice headphone but clearly the D2000 is way above it. Have fun. Speakers should be reconsidered if you feel that your not getting the most . I have my system designed for both my headphones and speakers but the speakers will beat out the headphones. My Decwar amps were designed custom to work with all my headphones as I actually have two full tube amps one each side of my Decware for both high and low impedance cans and out put on my CSP2 for the sub under my desk and Omega speakers into my Taboo. Kind of fixed all my needs. Look forward to your impressions on the D2000

...about the speakers.
I had not listened to my speakers in weeks as I have not been home alone in a while. I had a chance to listen to them last night and need to amend what I said about my phones being so much better. What they are is so much different ...as are all phones verses speakers. I am enjoying the phones more than I thought I would, especially considering how inexpensive a set-up I have. I listen to the speakers so infrequently I'd forgotten how good they are ...for what they are.
I haven't owned a pair of phones in maybe 25 years or so. Back then I used mostly the Signet TK-33 Electrets and the Nakamichi SP-7s. Its been all speakers since then.
The Denon's are in the garage, wrapped in a towel, and are connected to a Yamaha integrated amp and a portable CD player. They've been playing Little Feat's "Waiting For Columbus" since early last night. I've got them set a bit louder than my normal listening level. I'll have about 65+ hours on them before I listen to them again. They should be broken in by then.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
When it comes to my headphones vs. my speakers, I tend to favor whichever I've been listening to most. Whenever I think one is clearly better, I listen to the other for a while and my opinion balances out to different but equal-ish.
I know I can do much better on both fronts, but I'm starting to think I'm at "good enough" with both until a once in a lifetime deal presents itself.
The main lesson I've learned is to stop comparing headphones to speakers with the intent of declaring one superior to the other. For me the experiences are too different for that. Both have a role in my listening, and that's where I'm leaving it.

I agree with all and, like you, have reached that "good enough" stage and only want to upgrade if an incredible deal presents itself.
