I thought after this tumor I would have to settle for a simple system like the one already pictured. However I wanted more and added several components including the Jolida soundstage expander and Apogee Big Ben. Headphones are now the Kse1200 electrostatic earbuds from Shure.

How do you like the electrostatic earbuds?

Hey Sisterray,
Love them. They are the best sounding things in the house. You do need some bass boost IMHO but man they are soooooo clean and effortless. And with some boost, the bass is stellar. Amazon has them like $700 off on prime day and I just saw them reduced like that a few weeks ago. Its like a hifi bargain.
Sure the accompanying energizer is a pain but not insurmountable and before the tumor I was working on getting a custom one made from bottlehead. That said in the current setup the energizer is fine and you can probably see it below the ipad. It just sits there and I have it connected to charge and can listen on batteries if i like but often just listen while it is charging. Ironically, its when using these in a portable setup where the energizer is an issue for me, but no portable system is flawless...
These things just disappear like most electrostatics and i actually prefer not getting my over ears hot an sweaty. There are reviews where they talk about the isolation (from the tips) and the electrostatic detail offering a unique experience.
Here is a pretty solid review though I don't necessarily agree with the conclusion for me:

At a list price of $2K, you did very well!
STAX has earbuds, too, with a portable energizer. (It comes with an optional headband.) I BELIEVE that system is around $400 USD. The Shure buds are lower profile. I haven't heard either one.
Enjoy!

Cool! Had no idea about the stax. Looks like the buds are $284 and the portable amp with dac is $945. That's probably a better value than the shure since you get a dac and can probably buy a desktop amp instead...just a guess. Oh well, I will have to make due with the Shure :).

We're talking about two different systems. The one I was referring to may be available only in Japan.
I'm perfectly happy with my over-the-ear STAX. I'm trying to figure out a way to swing a pair of L700s.
Great to hear you're on the way to recovery. My father's brain tumor responded very well to radiation.
Stay well.

Ah Japan. They get all the good electronics.
Wonder how the US stax earbuds sound.
I am super fortunate that the tumor was benign but it can come back so its good to know that radiation works well.
Good luck on the L700.
Probably not the same thing since there are other letters but just in case

Fellow Schiit owner...-.
I was in the hospital for the last month recovering from a brain tumor. YES, that explains alot :) My room was packed up and the 30y old carpet was replaced with tile and painted, etc. Audio was packed up in bins. I assembled this simple system in the last couple of days. I could probably do 4 whole systems but wanted to keep it simple. Sadly I forgot a lot of what I was doing so just getting this working is a win.

Congrats on getting back home! Glad to hear you are recovering well.
Thanks Man! It helps me to know people are rooting for me. Audio has some of the best people! Lots of work ahead but I am confident that one day I will be better than when I had the tumor!

D, I am so very happy to see you around again!
I kind of missed some of those loose bolts in that head of yours :). Let's hope the doctors were not dumb enough to remove THOSE!!!
Seriously, best wishes and prayers for your speedy recovery.
JBen
Thanks J!!!!
Its good to be back and have some time for audio, even if its only headphones. Talk about some lose bolts!! Did you see the brushes under the components? That tripped out my buddy and sis who packed up my room. Why does this guy have so many brushes they asked. Anyhow Amazon has the brushes, its basically a push broom with out the handle and a wooden top and bristles. Put the components on the bristles and enjoy. Cheap and effective.
Anyhow thanks for the wishes and enjoy life!!!

There you go again, good! LOL! Something tells me that a revised picture of the one he posted above will be forthcoming from OG42 shortly after Amazon delivers the goods. :)
Hey J,
Thanks for the laugh!!
I really like to tinker!! I have 4 sets of footers I rotate every once in a while when I get the notion. My modest system is always in flux, as I am trying to get all I can out of it.
Again, thanks for the laugh and stay healthy!!!
lmao!! He may already have them!!! The idea came from another inmate but I forget who he was. Any how he was using small brushes as footers. Like cuticle brushes. Before I had homemade rollerballs and then I think I hung the gear from kevlar thread so it could move freely. All pretty unpractical. So the brushes were a winner and sound great...

Hey DR,
The name of the nice inmate that gave you and I the brush tip is Moray James.
As I told J, I really like to tinker.
Wishing the best for you!!!
Yeah he is great. Though iirc he was using brushes like footers, like 3 small ones. I was doing that but its easier to just use the big ones. Hopefully they sound the same!
Magwire and brushes, oh my! I will be fine!

Hey DR
Moray also mentioned red 3M scuff pads cut in strips and rolled up with glue on the inside.
Mag wire!!!
Oh, great! I just found a ton of my discarded toothbrushes. Let me see if 60 pounds of power amp can be held up, for a more cheerful sound. :)

Hey DR...-
Sorry to hear about this hospital stay.
Hope all goes well for you!!!
Thanks Old guy 42!
I am super fortunate! It wasn't cancerous and I am getting better each day. I am super fortunate for first rate care and family. The one complaint is they left my personality intact....was hoping the melonballer would have scooped out some of the weird :)

Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.
Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the wishes G Squared. I am expecting a long road but yes, a full recovery. Thanks for starting this thread and posting your rig. Looking good. Hopefully we will get more picts from inmates especially since AA is like the only forum that lets you post picts without a hosting site...

NICE!!
I would have ordered the black in 2016 for the Valhalla2 had it been available.
Enjoy..
