Not sure how your wife feels with 'regular' over the ear headphones.
I recently got a used Audio Technica ATH R70X for $ 200 with an extra short cable. (New they are around $ 300) They are extremely light and comfortable and can easily be powered by a mobil device without extra amplification. Sounds about as good a a Sennheiser HD6** with a little more clarity.
Thanks Guys for the replies.
The Audeze look really good and I'd love a set for myself, but the in-ear aspect is a deal killer for my wife.
I never really looked at the AT headphone line but those look really good. I'll take some time and go through the reviews.

Sorry. I must have misread the no in ear stuff. FWIW the Koss is supposed to sound good and be an amazing bargain. If a normal around ear headphone is OK as long as it is open back, the Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 is a great sounding can, more like a speaker presentation and I think its in the ball park.

Yes, take your time reading up on the AT.
All I can say, I have a closet full of headphones from Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, AKG, Grado and Stax and I easily could live with these AT R70X only, if I had to.
