Hi,My wife likes to go for early morning walks (45 to 60 minutes) while playing her Ibasso DAP. Currently, she has a couple sets of earbuds which she finds uncomfortable even with changing earbud tip sizes and a set of Koss Porta Pro on the ear headphones which aren't the greatest sounding although they are light and comfortable.
We would like to find a better set of headphones than the Koss, that aren't too bulky or cumbersome for walking. Preferably wired and open backed for safety. Sound quality is important as my wife has better ears than I do. Music minor in college and she puts me to shame with her listening skills.
Any suggestions in the under $200 range?
Thanks,
John

Hi, John.
Back in my running days, I used HIFIMAN HE400SE Open-Back Wired Headphones. Because of the lightweight and highly adjustable headband and the soft and pleasant ear pads, they are exceptionally comfortable to wear.
The downside is that they cost $100+ but I think you can grab them at the sale.
We're supposed to have a couple days of rain coming, so it will be a good time to go headphone hunting.
Our (only) local audio store used to have Grado so we will start there.
I'll let you know how we do.
Thanks for the input, I may need more.

They have a 365 return policy iirc.

Before she leaves the Koss PortaPro's behind, try fitting a pair of these. A well-known PortaPro hack and works well.
The Yaxi pads also work very well, come in black and are a little cheaper.
Have you tried a set of Koss KSC75? If you can get the on-ear clips comfortable you cannot beat the lack of weight on head. Generally around for $20 or less, worth giving a shot.
I have a pair of Jabra Move Style Edition wireless headphones I use while working out or in the massage chair. Good sound, comfortable, long battery charge life.
SR125x are $175,got my wife a pair of 225x for walking and she loves them!

I love the Grado sound as well, especially for Classic Rock. However, I wear eye glasses and no matter what pads I've used, they do get painful after a while.
What is your experience?
I have not tried them but they have garnered some happy reviews.
The less expensive Grados are open backed, lightweight, and sound great for the price!
They would not stay in position for jogging but for walking I have really enjoyed them in the past. And you can get soft-foam wrappers for the head frame if you like.

Not sure how your wife feels with 'regular' over the ear headphones.
I recently got a used Audio Technica ATH R70X for $ 200 with an extra short cable. (New they are around $ 300) They are extremely light and comfortable and can easily be powered by a mobil device without extra amplification. Sounds about as good a a Sennheiser HD6** with a little more clarity.
Thanks Guys for the replies.
The Audeze look really good and I'd love a set for myself, but the in-ear aspect is a deal killer for my wife.
I never really looked at the AT headphone line but those look really good. I'll take some time and go through the reviews.
Anymore recommendations?
Thanks,
John

Sorry. I must have misread the no in ear stuff. FWIW the Koss is supposed to sound good and be an amazing bargain. If a normal around ear headphone is OK as long as it is open back, the Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 is a great sounding can, more like a speaker presentation and I think its in the ball park.

Yes, take your time reading up on the AT.
All I can say, I have a closet full of headphones from Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, AKG, Grado and Stax and I easily could live with these AT R70X only, if I had to.
comfort is subjective. But this ticks all the other boxes. There is a B stock just a bit over $200
