Vacationed there years ago by driving the ring road. Definitely has a rugged beauty.

Once you leave Reykjavik, you're pretty much in the sparse country. Must hike the Vatna glacier and take in all the beautiful waterfalls.

    Blue lagoon is certainly impressive, however, there are "secret/natural/undeveloped" springs that Icelanders don't tell tourists about. Much more natural, private, and free! ;)
