I hate playing the devil's advocate since the most I spent on phono pre is $200 plus my sweat and burned fingers, but you guys are way beyond mark on this having been in the hobby for so long. You should at least know by now what counts and what's not. It wasn't that long ago that a small amp from Japan containing car amplifier chip costing $1.75 wiped the floor with a lot of thick faced audio junk sporting the best components.
