I very much doubt that Stereophile would review such an amplifier.

I think they wouldn't consider a brand that sells direct and builds to customers' requirements, so quality may vary from amp to amp. They tend (quite rightly in my view) to review only "mainstream" product where one can expect every one to perform identically. They used to have a policy that review products should be available from at least XX dealers, though I can't recall what the number was.

Their review of the NAD M33 that uses the Purifi technology was exceptionally good and the M33 went on to be chosen as their Amplifier of the Year, overall Component of the Year and Editors' Choice - perhaps the only device that has ever picked up all three awards.

Yet Stereophile always was willing to indulge the hieratic, hermetic, and the "masterpiece" that only has sold 2 units so far. Esoteric audio.

So the # of dealers angle is just an up-front weed-out. Not an actual rule.

People who have sided more with the DIY side have been made legends in their pages, so it can't be the DIY aspect.

I wonder what the trouble could be? Could it be, that this power amp trend can't be controlled either by the existing industry nor by the existing commentariat outside of ASR?

FWIW, Stereophile has reviewed other single-source products including multiple products from the same single source supplier.
Buckeye has the same in-house analyzer (Audio Precision) that ASR uses for all of its testing which gives them the ability to validate their designs and products.
Buckeye has stated they have over 4,000 unique customers to date, so they have a fair bit of experience delivering product.
