Newark also tends to ship in whatever size box has at least one dimension relative to a "stick" they are mailing. I received an order once that was shipped in two different packages (I did not know why at the time, until I opened the boxes...).The first box was about 4x2x1, and the second box was 24x8x10. Apparently, they had 50 loose chips that fit nicely in the 4x2x1 box. However, the second 50 were in a plastic stick, thus the 24 inch box.
And yes, shipping was charged for both boxes individually even though from the same order (quantity of 100). And the prices for shipping seemed to be based on exponentially calculated volumetric rates rather than weight...
