Jon is correct. Further, unless you REALLY know what you are doing, or the speakers are completely incompetently designed, then any amateur cone treatment will likely decrease performance.If the speaker is used in a bass reflex enclosure, then the added mass of the surface treatment, will alter several critical characteristics (Thiel-Small parameters). This will alter performance in an unpredictable manner. Sealed enclosures are slightly more predictable. Bass systems with servo systems may be thrown completely out of whack.
