I'd also be concerned about the effects of treatment on the glues that hold the speaker together. I know that the outgassing from silicone sealent (as it cures) can effect some glues, who knows about other treatments like laquer, Armourall or hairspray. I agree with Jon, its probably more trouble than its worth.
