Busted!!! ....hehehe....

Great post Doc!

You made me laugh and that hurts right now with the chest cold I've got!

Okay, the wirewounds are wound to a spec that calls out a certain wire gauge/metal alloy and a certain number of winds(wire length) and pitch(gap between the wires for the core length).

Okay, regarding the lead vs. Rval....this can be problematic in the VERY low value stuff we wind, i.e. 0.196 ohms or 0.681 ohms. Where we measure the Rval, is determined by the test fixture gauges we use and is standardized in our factory. We consistently check at the same place(about 1/8" from the end caps on the small resistors) and the "wind to" spec takes this into account so that we are in tolerance in the end.

Yeah, I have to give Jon Risch the credit for steering me in the right direction. He is very knowledgeable and a definite asset to this site. The result is going to be a mono metallic alloy resistor device, the resistor wire, end caps and leads will be of the same identical material. I'm even thinking about copper plating(this will be in material harmony) the leads in house and then applying a fugitive protectant to keep them from oxidizing in storage but would evaporate during the solder heating process by the end user. This way I keep tin out of my mono metallic alloy construction and it allows you to solder with the alloy you feel is best.
The other consideration I have is which coating to use to passivate the resistor, a really top-notch electrostatic silicone powder coating or a roll coated cement coating that is also excellent. I'll have to try some of each and see if you folks can hear the difference. :-)

BTW, are you using the 40 or 80 series? They're both good, the 80 series went through a bit more testing, as I recall. The new product should demolish those sonically though. If you're interested, I'll let you know when I've got some made up, they'll be in the 1 to 100 ohm range, 5W size.

I'm an avid audiophile and just 6 months ago joined Ohmite, didn't realize at that time that my acquaintences here would be customers also. Anyway, I'm excited that maybe we can improve things another notch, just by listening to each other and thinking about how to do something constructive with the information.
